Kevin and Michelle met in 1995, through animals, Michelle was recuing and fostering cats and Kevin wanted to adopt one.
They married in 1997 and started creating art together. This started, by chance, as two different neighbors were getting married
and their bridal registry was less than inspiring. Kevin came up with the idea to make a wedding album and build their wedding
invitation in the cover. Calls and referrals were coming in so they decided to jump in full time, and the rest is history.
Although, they still use paper, they have evolved into mixed media sculpture with an emphasis on recycled items.
Kevin is from Grand Rapids, Michigan and lived there until he moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1995. Kevin pursued a degree in
Industrial Design from the Kendal School of Design in Michigan and worked as a graphic designer before moving to Phoenix.
Kevin has been exposed to and loved the arts his entire life and came by it naturally as his mother is an artist in many mediums.
Kevin excels at the conceptual design, construction and embellishments of their sculptural pieces.
Michelle was born in London, Canada and has lived all over the world including Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, UK,
Dominican Republic and other Asian countries. Michelle graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in
Human Kinetics (BHK) and from Durham University with a Masters of Business Administration (MBA). Michelle worked as Director
of Marketing for and international firm before moving to Phoenix in 1994.
Michelle has always been interested in art and when meeting Kevin began to explore her artistic side. Michelle brings an eye for
texture and color to the colaboration of artwork.
In all aspects of their lives Kevin and Michelle are interested in the environment, from gardening, composting and recycling
whenever possible. This love of the environment is evident in their work from using natural elements such as rocks, leaves,
branches and items from the desert. Another element to this environmental approach is to include things that would normally
go into landfill that can be used for texture, old blue jeans, mesh from onion and potato bags, gum and pill tablets and cardboard.
The Russell’s work can be found in private and corporate collections in the United States and Canada as well as Asia.
Kevin and Michelle live and create in Phoenix, Arizona with their eight cats and their new koi pond, featuring, Sinatra,
